Lake Washington Institute of Technology
The Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) is a public institute of higher education in King County, Washington. LWTech offers more than 50 associate degrees, professional certificates, and applied bachelor’s degrees in 40 areas of study, including engineering, business, information technology, and health sciences.
LWTech was founded in 1949 as the Seattle Vocational Institute. In 1963, the State Legislature renamed it Seattle Community College District VIII. The following year it became one of the first two-year colleges in Washington to offer four-year degree programs. In 1982, the college moved to its current location in Kirkland and began offering Bachelor of Applied Science degrees. In 1991, the Legislature again renamed the college, this time to Lake Washington Technical College. The name change reflected the college’s expanded mission and emphasis on technology. In 2013, the Legislature once again renamed the school, to its current name of Lake Washington Institute of Technology, or LWTech.
LWTech is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). It is also home to a number of specialized accreditations and programs that are nationally and internationally recognized.
